Hardwood is made from a combination of an MDF frame combined with hardwood shutter panels. This gives them a robust frame mixed with a light panel.

The Hardwood shutters are made with a mixture of hardwoods, all with a liner grain which is ideal for painting giving it a flat and uniform finish. You can choose from 6 of our colour options as well as a colour match option. Seeing as it is a lightweight material, customers often choose it for café style and tier on tier shutters for their living room windows.

What’s the difference between Hardwood and MDF?

MDF is a purely man-made material whereas the main panelling of Hardwood is made from a natural wood product. This is why hardwood is a little more expensive than MDF. Hardwood Shutters use an MDF fixing frame to allow costs to remain cheaper than an all wood product like Pearlwood.

Will I notice the MDF framing on my Hardwood shutters?

No, the MDF fixing frame on Hardwood shutters blends tastefully with the wooden panels and is unrecognisable to most. Some clients prefer a full wood shutter but many of our clients opt for Hardwood to open up more colouring options and wood panelled shutter whilst keeping costs down.

Can Hardwood have a stained finish?

No – Hardwood shutters are available in painted finishes only. Hardwood has 23 standard paint finishes available as well as the option for a custom colour option. If you wish to have a stain finish, have a look at our Pearlwood shutters.
