Closely resembling Hardwood, Silkwood is manufactured with a polypropylene sleeve which is very hardwearing and also protects it from changes in the temperature which eliminates the risk of changes in moisture as well as warping and twisting.

Is Silkwood strong?

  • Yes, like Craftwood MDF, Silkwood is a very robust material suitable for use throughout the home. Silkwood is an MDF shutter with ABS louvres covered in a paintable polypropylene sleeve which is hardwearing and helps to protect the shutter from both insitu moisture and the risk of twisting and warping. The ABS louvres make Silkwood lighter than a full MDF shutter whilst still maintaining the strong qualities suitable for busy spaces or family homes.

Is Silkwood sustainable?

  • Silk wood is an energy efficient material option as all MDF products including Silkwood are produced from managed plantation Radiata Pine forests that reach maturity in about 30 years. 70% of the MDF manufacturing energy requirements on site are for producing heat and as the plant generates almost all of its own heat requirement by burning wood residues this is very energy efficient. This is a form of bio-fuel and is considered greenhouse gad neutral under the Kyoto protocol.

I have wide windows – is silkwood the best material for my shutters?

  • If you are looking to keep costs down, Silkwood is a fantastic material choice for windows as it combines the low cost of the Craftwood MDF with a light weight similar to that of wooden shutters, allowing for larger panels of wooden materials. For clients with a bigger budget looking for as larger panels as possible, particularly in a bi-folding style, and not a hybrid product, our wooden materials are a fantastic natural option for these shutters.

Why is Silkwood the best material for me?

  • Silkwood shutters offer a great compromise between our wooden shutter range and Craftwood MDF shutters as they combine the low price and durability of a hybrid shutter with the light weight allowing more specification flexibility that is offered by wooden shutters. Clients looking to opt for a Silkwood shutter will likely be installing shutters in a space where durability is important with a clear budget in mind.
