Installing shutters to help with allergies

It’s the time of year again that the pollen count is climbing and more and more sunshine days are gracing us with their presence. As a result, a large majority of the population may be feeling the effects of hay fever setting itself in for the months to come. You’ll be glad to know that we have the solution that may help you and it’s closer than you think in your window dressing!

Shutters are the most effective window dressing solution to help those with allergies and their effectiveness for keeping the area clear of dust, so you can be comfortable that you have the most effective dressing not just in the high pollen months, but year round. Outside the long list of benefits that attract people to choosing shutters for their home, here are some of the ways that shutters make the best dressing available to help with allergies.

Easy clean

Shutters are low maintenance and easy to clean, especially when compared to other window dressings. To keep the shutters dust free, panels and slats can be dusted regularly using a duster of choice, although we recommend ostrich feather dusters as the most effective option for picking up the most surface dust as possible. Shutter surfaces can also be wiped down with a dry or slightly dampened and thoroughly rung cloth to remove any marks that may be in place.

Filtration of air flow through slats

Being a sturdy addition to the window area, shutters provide a solid covering that allows air to flow through the home which is great to avoid high levels of dust in rooms – a common irritant that can to flare up allergies. Having a solid cover in front of the window when windows are open will also make you feel that your interiors are better protected when the windows are opened to cool the room down as shutter panels can be closed to let the air flow through but there still be a sturdy cover on the window.

Less dust attraction

Window dressings can attract high dust levels which can further irritate allergy symptoms without you even noticing as if the dust is not obviously visible on a surface then it is easy for it to go unmissed. Curtains are a good example of a dressing that can have high hidden dust levels because the dust embeds into the fabric and it is not easy to clean curtains and the amount of dust trapped inside may only become clear if the curtains are fanned out. Blinds do not suffer from this problem quite to the same scale as curtains but can still be an issue. Shutters attract less dust than these fabric dressing options and any dust that is present on the shutter slats or panels can be easily dusted or wiped off using a feather duster.
