Should I Install Shutters To All My Windows?

When exploring shutter possibilities for your home, you may face the decision of whether to install to specific windows or whether to ‘shutter’ all windows at the same time. Unsurprisingly, we would absolutely always recommend installing shutters to all windows together because there are so many benefits to having all your windows covered by this luxurious window dressing. However, we do understand that this isn’t always possible. The decision is of course down to personal preference and circumstance for your home but if you find yourself on the fence about which is best for you then here’s some things to consider.

Benefits of installing to all windows at the same time

Save Money

Choosing to install all of your shutters at the same time is the most cost-effective method for adding shutters to your home. It is cheaper to have our experts undertake one single installation appointment rather than multiple. Reducing the number of visits will also be minimally disruptive, especially if you have busy schedules to work around or are working from home. A standard delivery charge is applied to every shutter order from our supplier and so naturally doing everything together will mean that only one delivery charge is applied to the order.

Consistent Design

Having a consistent look for your window dressings can connect the aesthetic of each room together. The décor of each room is often based an ideal combination of the purpose of the space and the overall interior theme across the home. Each individual space will give its own unique offering. Having a consistent window dressing across every room can help bring together different finishes and unify the rooms.

Shutters have an unparalleled curb appeal when compared to other window dressings. Adding this dressing to all windows means that your home will not just be appealing from inside each room but will also display a consistently smart look from the outside too.

Benefits on offer

There are a long list of benefits available to your home when shutters are in place and making these available on all windows will be transformative to your property. Keeping rooms warm is particularly desirable in winter months and the rapidly rising cost of gas and electricity is a concern for many. Having an extra layer in front of the window to further insulate the room can assist with the reduction of heat loss from a room. The most effective usage of the shutter is to allow sunlight into the room during the day with open slats or panels, drawing in as much heat as possible. On an evening, manoeuvre the panels and slats to a closed position to trap in heat.

Privacy in rooms is a major appeal of shutters. Having light shine through whilst simultaneously obstructing the view into the space is ideal for on-looked or ground floor rooms. Your home will feel like a safe haven when rooms are filled with light and the desired level of privacy. Café style shutters are a great option in communal rooms such as living rooms where increased privacy might be preferred by part obstructing the inward view but full coverage of the window is not necessary.

Those living in busy areas will also likely find that shutters offer a great noise reduction in the space. Having a solid dressing for the window, in any of our materials, cab absorb or dampen unwanted sounds.

Installing shutters in different phases

There are a few reasons that you may consider holding out or splitting the installation of your shutters into parts and sometimes that is the best course.

Cost

Although installing multiple shutters at the same time can help to reduce service costs such as installation and delivery, if you are working on a strict budget or want to split costs across a period of time then you may decide to divide the works across multiple installations.

New to shutters

If installing shutters to your property for the first time then you may test the waters with a single set initially to explore the aesthetic in your home. Our clients return absolutely thrilled after installing shutters to their windows, desperate to add more. After falling in love with the benefits on offer and window area transformation, many decide to add shutters to the remainder of their windows. We have no doubt that once you go for shutters, you’ll never consider another window dressing again.

Window Changing

It is always recommended that if any windows will be changed that this is done prior to shutters being installed. We take great pride in the exact custom build of every set of shutters installed which are manufactured on measurements of the window area. This exact customisation means that even changes of a few millimetres to windows can be the difference between the shutters fitting and not.

For those eager to ‘shutter up’ as soon as possible, this may inform the decision to split orders into multiple parts. Starting with windows that are not changing, the wonderful benefits available can be introduced into the home. Once the remaining windows have been changed, our specialists will re-visit to measure up the new window sizes and get this luxurious shutter covering installed throughout the entirety of the home.

Upcoming Decorating

Similar to window changes, it is always recommended that any decoration in the home is carried out before the shutters are installed. This may mean that some rooms are ready for their shutters ahead of others. Holding out for decorating to be complete means that the window area can be finished to a high level before the shutters go in. If shutters are installed prior to decoration works, it can be a little trickier for finishing touches to be completed. Many would prefer to avoid the risk of their stunning new shutters getting damaged from works and so to avoid this simply make sure that shutters are the final flourish to your home – the cherry on top of the cake.
